Used RV Sales

Used RVs can be found at used RV dealers, from private sellers (through the local press, specialized RV magazines or the Internet) or even in seized auctions or police auctions.

If this is your first time buying a used RV then you will only have an idea as to the type of vehicle you require. Once you have been on the road for a season or two then you will know what size and features you really need and what you can do without. So if this is your first RV then you need to ask yourself for what you will be using the vehicle. To get away for a few days 3 or 4 times a year with your partner? or do you have a large family? or will you be using it for extended periods of 6 weeks or more continually. The answer to these questions should start to point you in the direction of one model or another.

A used RV Dealership might be a good place to start if you are buying your first motorhome. They will have all sorts of makes and models to choose from and you should be able to get the feel of each of them. With most dealers you will get some sort of guarantee and you could even purchase as an extra an extended guarantee. These tend to be expensive but if you are inexperienced in this field and are buying your first motorhome then it might be worth the peace of mind as there is so much to buying a motorhome that it is easy to miss things at the time of buying.

If you are feeling a little more adventurous you might try purchasing from a private seller who has advertised in the RV magazines. You will get a much cheaper deal than with a used RV dealership but you will not have the security of the guarantee or of the reputation of the dealer. Much care should be taken when looking over the vehicle. It is advisable to take a mechanic with you to look over the vehicle as well as another experienced motorhome owner. Thoroughly check over all of the paperwork especially that the VIN number matches the actual plaque on the vehicle.

Police auctions or seized auctions are the place to go if you are looking for an absolute bargain. These are not however for the faint hearted. You really need to know how to find a good motorhome, inspect it in a short time and put an approximate street value in it. You then need to be disciplined about your bidding and get carried away into bidding over the real value for the vehicle. Having said that, with most of the auctions the opening bid can be as low as $100 and on occasions you can get relatively new RVs at a fraction of the price they are worth.

To find police auctions in your area you need to visit the Seized Vehicle Auctions web site or the Auction Pass site. Here you can find vehicles with bid prices starting as low as $100. These sites have regularly updated databases of the upcoming auctions and the vehicles that will be available.
